It’s far from the 12-day furlough she wanted, but at least it’s something.

“On Monday, December 22, the Sandiganbayan 1st Division granted former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo a four-day furlough to spend Christmas with her family,” reports Patricia Lourdes Viray on Philstar.com.

The report noted: “The incumbent Pampanga representative and former President will be transported from the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) at 10am on December 23 to her La Vista, Quezon City residence and will return to the hospital at 2pm on December 26.”

Apparently, the Sandiganbayan explained that Arroyo was granted the break “in light of the coming visit of Pope Francis, who is a personification of mercy and compassion.”

The Director General of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will provide adequate escorts and security for Arroyo. They will also be tasked to monitor Arroyo’s “use of any means of communication and electronics.”

Arroyo will not be allowed to entertain the media during her break.
