A Twitter user has posted photos of an AirAsia plane — flight Z2 272 — that appears to have overshot the Kalibo runway.

According to Jet Damazo Santos, a journalist from Rappler Indonesia, passengers had to leave the aircraft using its emergency slide.

“Engine was shut immediately, we were told to leave bags, deplane asap. Firetruck was waiting. Seems handled well,” she posted on her Twitter account. “Nobody seems to be hurt. Weather was bad because of #senangph. Plane came to a very abrupt stop.”

The delayed flight departed from Manila. “When asked what happened, a flight attendant said it was because of strong winds,” reports Santos on Rappler.com.

We will update this story as we get more information. Coconuts Manila has contacted AirAsia Philippines and we are waiting for the company’s reply.

Bad weather was also a signficant factor in the disappearance of an AirAsia Indonesia plane on Dec 28.

Flight QZ8501 was heading to Singapore from Surabaya, Indonesia, when it disappeared with 162 passengers on board.

Shortly before disappearing, the plane asked permission from Jakarta air traffic control to deviate from its flight plan and climb above bad weather in an area noted for severe thunderstorms.

This afternoon, Indonesian officials found several bodies floating in the water near the site where debris from AirAsia QZ8501 was found. For the latest updates on AirAsia #QZ8501 visit our sister sites Coconuts Jakarta and Coconuts Singapore.
