Life is sweet, thanks in part to the growing number of pastry shops that have set up shop in Metro Manila. This year, it can only get sweeter as four more dessert havens will open in the coming months. Are you ready for a sugar high?

laduree

1. Ladurée

This French luxury brand has been teasing us with its entry into our country for years now. It’s only recently that the flirtation finally ended. Luckily, it will bear good results — in the form a retail shop to be situated at the Lopez Tower in Rockwell. It is reported to build a café situated at a very prime and “green” spot in Makati in 2016. If that is true, then its famed macarons might be the last reason people will go to Laduree for because I’ve been told about the design plan and it is very promising. godiva

2. Godiva Chocolate Café

Godiva is an international brand that’s synonymous to luxurious chocolates. That’s why thousands of chocoholics are in anticipation over the opening of this shop. Located at the City of Dreams, the famed café will lay out an assortment of refined chocolate items including truffles, fondues and drinks, all for guilty indulgence in-store. passion

3. Passion by Gerard Dubois

It’s been five years since the Swiss-born pastry chef first started selling traditional French pastries. Known for its line of good breads and classic French sweets like lemon tart, mille feuille and macarons, Passion will ignite and satiate local sweet cravings the way it has done in Hong Kong. According to reliable sources, the brand has actually been operating in the country for years now, providing desserts to a number of reputable hotels and establishments. 4. Myrtle

The dessert shop I’m most excited about is the only homegrown and the only new concept in the list. Myrtle is not final and is still a working name but one thing is for sure, young genius Miko Aspiras will spearhead the operations and be the one responsible in producing a wide selection of desserts. Everything will be cooked and baked on-site to provide not just a visual spectacle but to promise freshness and deliver an aroma that will lure guests in and fill them up with his signature sweets. It is reported to open in a shopping mall in Ortigas. Well, it has been proven time and again that whatever Miko puts his talented hands on, turns into treasure gold. This, his biggest project to date, undoubtedly won’t be any different.
