Pope Francis is known to be a Marian devotee, so it’s the perfect gift for him.

“President Noynoy Aquino gifted Pope Francis during their private meeting in Malacanang with a sculpture called ‘Mary, Undoer of Knots,'” reports Lira Dalangin-Fernandez on InterAksyon.com.

The report revealed: “The image was carved from a piece from a century-old acacia tree that once grew on the grounds of Malacañan Palace but was uprooted at the height of Typhoon Glenda in July 2014.”

Multi-awarded sculptor Fred Baldemor from Paete, Laguna hand-carved the image several months ago.

The portrayal of Mary as the undoer of knots is a traditional one among Marian devotees. She is hailed as the “mother” who helps people sort out their travails.

The report noted that “Baldemor’s works can also be found at the Immaculate Concepcion Parish in Pasig City and St. Patrick Cathedral in New York and has been featured in many exhibits.”
