They were among the very first people to welcome the Pontiff when he arrived at Villamor Air Base on Thu afternoon, Jan 15.

“Orphans Mark Angelo Balberos, 10, and Lani Ortillo, 9 — both from the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation in Alabang, Muntinlupa — offered flowers to the Pope right after he disembarked from the plane,” reports ANC.

The Pope then gave the two kids a hug. He also gave each of them a rosary in a pouch with the Papal insignia.

The report noted: “Pope Francis is known to be close to the youth.”

The report then quoted Vatican press office director Fr. Federico Lombardi as saying, “[It’s] about the attention of the Pope for the youth, how he feels with them. He was happy to be welcomed by them and he will be very happy to meet them in the next days and give some message of enthusiasm or inspiration of love and hope… He has many things to say to them.”
