“Around 13 monuments erected along T. M Kalaw Street to P. Ocampo Street in Manila will give way to the redevelopment of Roxas Boulevard, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Monday, Jan. 26,” reports Raymund F. Antonio in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Construction Division officer-in-charge Engineer Joy Bacual said these monuments will be dismantled and transferred to strategic areas along the baywalk and plazas along the service road of the Roxas Boulevard.”

It turns out that PGAA Creative Design, the consultant for the Roxas Boulevard Redevelopment Plan, “suggested the plan to transfer the monuments.”

Among the affected structures are the statues of former Presidents Jose P. Laurel, Ramon Magsaysay, and Elpidio Quirino, as well as former Vice President Salvador Laurel (in photo).

The report added: “Other monuments installed within the area are that of Filipino action star Fernando Poe Jr., former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., and journalist Maximo Soliven.”
