Are they saying, “Don’t hold your breath”?
“The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday there is still no certainty that a new minimum wage will be approved in Metro Manila this year,” reports Samuel Medenilla in Manila Bulletin.
The report noted: “In an interview, DOLE Regional Director Alex Avila said the consultation for a new wage adjustment in the National Capital Region (NCR) is still pending after they were forced to defer it last week.”
Avila explained, “We had to postpone it since some of the representatives were not available,” said Avila, who also serves the chairman of the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Boards (RTWPB) in NCR.”
The close-door consultation for labor groups, was supposed to be held last Friday (Jan 23) before it was moved to Thursday (Jan 29).
Meanwhile, the subsequent consultations for employers has been reset to Feb 10, while the consultations for other government agencies have been moved to Feb 17.
Avila added, “We will publish the notice for the public consultations once we finalize its date.”
