The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said that four firms (actually four tandems) have submitted qualification documents for the contract to operate and maintain the Light Rail Transit-Line 2 (LRT-2).

They are the following:

1. Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) and Ayala Corp.

2. San Miguel Corp. and Korea Rail

3. Aboitiz Equity Ventures and SMRT Transport Solutions

4. DMCI and Tokyo Metro.

“The DOTC’s Bids and Awards Committee is expected to announce the qualified bidders for the project by the end of February. The submission of bids will be held in the second half of the year,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted that “the original deadline of submission of qualification documents was earlier set on November 20, 2014 but was moved to January 27 to give bidders more time.”

The report pointed out that “the operation and maintenance contract involves the operation and maintenance of the existing 13.8-kilometer LRT-2 as well as the proposed PHP9.7 billion extension project covering an additional 4.19 kilometers.”
