He said a lot of things, but he didn’t really clear the air.

“At around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, President Noynoy Aquino delivered his speech on the bloody ‘misencounter’ between the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) commandos and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF),” reports ANC.

The report noted: “The operation last Sunday, January 25, in Mamasapano, Maguindanao targeted two international terrorists associated with Jemaah Islamiyah—Malaysian bomb maker Zulkifli Bin Hir alias ‘Marwan’ and Basit Usman. The US had offered a US$5 million bounty for Marwan and US$1 million for Usman.”

The report explained that the Mamasapano operation took a bloody turn, with 44 elite cops killed and 12 wounded in clash against members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The report said that according to MILF chief peace negotiator Mohaquer Iqbal “the police personnel should have first coordinated with the Ceasefire Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) and the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) before conducting their operation in the MILF-controlled area.”

In honor of the fallen elite cops, the President has declared Friday, Jan 30, as a National Day of Mourning.

However, Aquino also pointed out that the Mamasapano clash may have happened because there was a “lack of coordination between the PNP-SAF and the military” in the area.

Aquino is urging the public to curb their clamor for retaliation, saying in Filipino: “I’m sure we can rely on the MILF to help us get justice for our troopers.”
