Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim announced on Wednesday, Jan 28, the formation of a commission that will investigate the incident.
“This comes in the wake of the bloody encounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Sunday, Jan 25, that killed more than 40 members of the elite Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF),” reports Alexander D. Lopez in Tempo.
In a statement, Murad also expressed the deepest sympathy of the group to the families of those who died during the encounter. He added, “Our concern is the truth.”
Murad further explained that “the MILF is convening a Special Investigative Commission (SIC) that will be composed of the members of the Central Committee and the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) General Staff to investigate the incident in Mamasapano.”
“The mandate of the SIC is to gather as much reliable information and interview witnesses to establish the truth,” Murad stated.
The report indicated that “the SIC is also tasked to come up with a result of their investigation as soon as possible.”
