This is simply heartbreaking.

“Police and military officers on Friday eulogized and paid tribute to the 44 Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) cops who were killed in a botched anti-terror operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The remains of 42 troopers were transported to Manila, while two were already buried in Zamboanga as per the stipulations of Muslim rites.

Col. Danilo Pamonag, commanding officer of the Light Reaction Regiment of the Philippine Army’s special forces command, attested to “the bravery of SAF troops in many critical operations in Mindanao.”

Addressing the fallen, Pamonag stated, “To us, your brother in arms, you will never be just a number. You will always be our comrades. We know your names, we know your faces and we will never forget the times we fought side by side.”

For his part, Police Supt. Reynald Arino, 5th Special Action Battalion commanding officer said, “Remembering them will give us willpower to continue our mandated task.”

Meanwhile, Police Supt. Abraham Abayari, commanding officer of the Raid Deployment Battalion, declared, “Beneath the tomb where they will peacefully lie consecrates the high ideals of patriotism,” he said.

For his part, Chief Inspector Victor Lacwasan, Force Support Battalion commanding officer, paid tribute to the fallen SAF officers, saying that they “stayed true to their duty and extended their tours of duty despite the hardship of the terrain in Mindanao.”
