Purisima accused of being in charge of Mamasapano mission

The problem with this story is that the sources being cited are not named. Of course, that hasn’t prevented the story from spreading like an airborne virus inside a crowded train.

“There have been so-called ‘highly placed security sources’ who have claimed that suspended Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima allegedly directed the operation by ‘remote control’ that led to the killing of 44 PNP Special Action Force (SAF) commandos,” reports Christina Mendez in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “The PNP Board of Inquiry, created to probe the bloody encounter with Islamic rebels in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Sunday, January 25, is looking into a possible breach of protocol by Purisima that could have resulted in the operation gone horribly wrong.”

The board is said to be examining alleged Purisima’s role in the operations, as well as “the process by which the operation was hatched and implemented in view of reports that it had the go-signal of President Aquino.”

It may be recalled that Purisima is under a six-month suspension ordered by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with an allegedly questionable contract that the PNP entered into with a courier service back in 2011. The suspension started in Dec 2014.

Purisima has not commented on these new allegations linking him to the Mamasapano clash. The report said that “Purisima is in Saipan to attend a meeting of the Masons.”
