Yes, Batangas will soon have more legislative districts.

“The Senate committee on local government approved on second reading last February 11 the creation of lone districts for Batangas City and Lipa City,” reports Arnell Ozaeta on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “Authored by Batangas 2nd District Rep. Raneo Abu, the move will increase the legislative districts of Batangas to 6 come 2016 elections, compared to 4 at the moment.”

The report explained that “the National Statistics Office has certified that both Batangas City and Lipa City meet the population requirement for the creation of a lone district.”

Present at the said Senate hearing were Senator Ralph Recto, Abu, Batangas 4th District Rep. Dong Mendoza, Batangas Vice Governor Marc Leviste, board members and Lipa City Mayor Meynard Sabili.

Leviste said, “It opens up a lot of possibilities not only in politics, but also in economics.”
