In a Balitang America feature, it was revealed that Filipino-American hair stylist Mark Bustos was paying it forward in New York by giving free haircuts to homeless people on Sundays.

Bustos would just walk around and then when he saw a homeless person, he would ask that person if he or she would allow him to give him or her a haircut.

Bustos’ simple but transformative good deed has earned him praise from his New York neighborhood.

The report indicated that Bustos actually works at a high-end hair studio in Manhattan’s posh Chelsea area, where a haircut costs at least US$125.

Bustos revealed that he was initially inspired “to do something for others” during his visit to his family’s hometown of Pampanga when he was 12 years old.

Bustos has come back time and again to the town to San Nicolas, Masantol, Pampanga to do for needy Pinoys what he does for homeless New Yorkers.

Bustos is actually in the country doing just that. He has even brought along some of his fellow New York hairstylists, who have joined him in his “Be Awesome to Somebody” project.
