President Hollande, Greenpeace has something to tell you!

French President François Hollande is arriving in Metro Manila today for a two-day state visit. He the first French President to visit the Philippines since our diplomatic ties began in 1947, by the way, and climate change is his main agenda.
Environmental non-profit Greenpeace Philippines is taking this as an opportunity to raise awareness about climate change, and to get Hollande to commit to renewable energy.

Greenpeace braved the EDSA People Power Anniversary traffic yesterday and went around the city aboard an electric jeepney to  raise awareness about climate change, and to get Hollande to commit to renewable energy.

The statement “is to help bring ‘Climate Power’ to the people,” Anna Abad, a climate justice campaigner for Greenpeace says. “We’re calling on the President Hollande to take leadership on the biggest humanitarian, environmental and security threat the world faces.”

What is Greenpeace asking, exactly? For Hollande to make the commitment to phase out fossil fuels and nuclear energy, and to transition to renewable energy.

The electric jeepney passed through several historic sites — EDSA included — trying to raise awareness and drum up support in getting Hollande’s attention.

Though the Philippines has a small carbon footprint, the country remains as one of the more vulnerable countries to climate change.

Greenpeace volunteers took the ugly traffic yesterday as an opportunity to spread awareness.

The Greenpeace electric jeepney passed through several Metro Manila cities. Here, it is seen in Quezon City.

Here it is in Makati CBD.
