Tips and tricks: Easy way to peel ginger

Go (coco)nuts! Share this story with your friends.

Ginger has such a thin skin that peeling it with a knife usually takes time, effort and some of the meat from the plant. Unless you have excellent knife skills, unraveling the flesh of ginger can be a taxing chore.

Well, not really.

Here’s a two-step trick to banish your troubles in dealing with this root crop.

Ginger step 1

Step 1: Drag a regular tablespoon down the root as if you were scraping it. Don’t go deep. You don’t have to exert too much pressure, just enough to get the thin skin layer out.

Ginger step 2

Step 2: Work your way around the ginger, avoiding the part you won’t be needing. This will help the ginger stay moist. Slice or chop accordingly.
