Be warned.

“The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) yesterday warned computer retailers that their licenses and business permits may be revoked should they be caught selling counterfeit or pirated software,” reports Leonard Postrado in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “NBI director Virgilio Mendez made this warning as bureau agents on Thursday, February 26, raided Easy PCG Computing Inc. located at 427-B J.P. Rizal Street Barangay Olympia, Makati City and 2nd floor, SM Hypermart along Sucat Avenue in Paranaque City respectively.”

The NBI agents seized laptop and desktop computers with unlicensed Microsoft software.

The raid stemmed from a complaint by Atty. Germelyn Claire Geverola, representative of Microsoft Corporation.

Mendez was quoted as saying, “If they think that they will not be adversely affected by selling pirated softwares, then they are wrong. They risk the jobs of their employees, their businesses, and their consumers to loss of property and criminal prosecution.”
