Bicycle riders, rejoice!

In Jan last year, Quezon City 3rd District councilor Allan Benedict Reyes filed an ordinance that imposes penalties to owners of business establishments in the city who will fail to provide parking spaces for bicycles.

“Under the Bicycle Ordinance, a fine of PHP3,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months will be imposed on establishments who fail to comply. Managers or owners of the businesses will be held liable for any violation of the ordinance,” reports Dexter Ganibe on ABS-CBNnews.com.

According to Reyes, the ordinance is “part of the measures to prevent bicycle theft in the city,” as well as to “encourage residents to use their bicycles for short trips instead of driving their cars, which may also help alleviate air pollution.”
