COCONUTS HOT SPOT — If you like curry, hop on to CoCo Ichibanya Curry House. Over 1400 branches around the world can’t be wrong — and the world’s largest food chain recently opened a store in Pasig City at the Estancia Mall in Capital Commons.
The intensely flavored curry sauce is the kind you’d want to douse on anything and everything. And so be warned that it would definitely make you eat more than your fair share of rice.
Good thing you customize your meal a bunch of ways, starting with the rice. They start you off with 300 grams, but you can request to add or lower the weight based on your preference.

The price adjusts accordingly as well, but not for the level of spiciness — be it mild, hot or crazy hot.
You can also order add-ons like add stewed chicken to your fried squid, or the crispy pari-pari chicken to your veggie curry. Finally, you can opt to make it a meal by having soup, salad and/or dessert for a good deal.
The menu lists down a huge range of recommendations — from hashed beef and mushroom, creamed croquette, and clams, spinach and ripe tomato, to the bestselling pork cutlet and vegetables, and a burger patty filled with melted cheese.
Most of the ingredients are flown in from Japan, including the potatoes.
The Philippine franchise is owned by Hubert Young (UCC Coffee and Mitsuyado Sei-Men), who took two years to negotiate the deal.
The dishes are affordable: cheese hamburger curry (PHP360) plus additional sausages (PHP130); pork cutlet curry (PHP340) with mushrooms (PHP80); pork cutlet omelet curry (PHP360); and chicken curry rice gratin (PHP330).
