They want us to find other ways to deal with the brutal summer heat.

“With Congress still sitting on the emergency power proposal from President Noynoy Aquino, Malacañang has appealed to the public to conserve electricity through the prudent use of airconditioners and other appliances amid the limited power reserves in Luzon this summer,” reports Genalyn Kabiling in Manila Bulletin.

Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. was quoted as saying, “We have long discussed this and reminded the public about energy conversation measures that can be done at home. People can regulate the thermostat of the air conditioner and other appliances to save energy.”

The report noted: “Coloma said the Department of Energy (DOE) has also already enlisted the support of large power consumers to implement the voluntary Interruptible Load Program (ILP) where they will use power generators to ease the demand on the Luzon grid. The energy department  has reportedly secured a 738 megawatts (MW) in power capacity from the volunteers to the ILP.”
