How could thousands of marijuana plants have escaped scrutiny for so long?
“Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 7 and the Philippine Army uprooted fully grown plants and seedlings of marijuana in an operation in Balamban, Cebu on Tuesday, reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report noted: “The operation, led by PDEA RO7 Director Jeffrey A. Bangsa, in collaboration with 5th Special Forces Company and Intelligence Service Unit 7 conducted marijuana eradication in the sitios of Liki, Kalubihan, Taro and Kabatbatan in Barangay Bayong in Balamban.”
Authorities revealed that they “discovered thirteen marijuana plantation sites, with an estimated total land area of 16,500 square meters.”
In the end, the operating teams were able to “destroy and burn the 33,387 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants, and 4,000 pieces of marijuana seedlings.”
The plants reportedly had an estimated market value of P6.9 million.
The operation was carried out following reports of marijuana cultivation in the area, reported as one of the primary sources of marijuana in the region.
No cultivator was arrested in the eradication operation.
