Tips and Tricks: Using a spoon to peel

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

The humble spoon is not just good for scooping food. It has other uses in the kitchen apart from portioning solids or stirring liquids.

One of its other uses? You can use the spoon for peeling! What’s great is that it makes doing this particular kitchen prep a lot easier, keeps you safe from using a sharp blade, and doesn’t have you shaving much of the veg or fruit off.

Here’s how to do it:

For peeling Ginger:
With hardly any effort needed, scrape ginger with the edge of a spoon to remove skin.

For peeling Kiwi:
Cut the ends of the fruit then slide the spoon under the skin around the kiwi.
