For many Filipino travelers, a visit to Japan isn’t complete without trying the many varied and Japan-exclusive flavors of 1) KitKat and 2) Calbee potato chips.

So it’s such a treat to know that Calbee is now in the Philippines. “As of two weeks ago, one need not go to Japan to get a Calbee fix; the Japanese brand has partnered with Philippine snacks expert Jack ‘n Jill to make their chips available here,” writes Tatin Yang on Inquirer.net.

According to the report, it was Calbee who approached Jack ‘Jill. “One of its top strategies was to expand around Asia, while we have been looking to compete in the premium segment of the local market. We have similar values and complementary strengthes,” says Teree Eugenio URC general manager and VP for marketing of snacks.

Calbee brought in new technology and a URC built a new factory just for this tie-up.

Launching the partnership are three flavors of the classic potato chip (Classic Salted, Cheddar and Sour Cream, and Wasabi) three variants of called Jagabee, which is the crunchy potato sticks (Salted, Cheese, Garlic) and the Pizza Potato.

A Calbee pop-up store, where fun games can be played and exclusive Calbee merch can be bought, will be going around Metro Manila stores. It will be at the Alabang Town Center on Saturday and Sunday; and then again in Bonifacio Global City on April 11 & 12.
