The Buzz just aired its last episode

Our knee-jerk reaction was: How will our Sunday afternoons be?! It’s rather selfish, we know, but that’s breaking a 16-year-habit.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, ABS-CBN’s long-standing showbiz talk show The Buzz aired its last episode. “Oo, this is our last show,” confirms Boy Abunda. “Mula April 12, wala na pong The Buzz.”

He says he knows that going off-air is the right decision but it doesn’t mean it’s not painful. Hindi ako magkukunwari naI’m not hurting. It’s very painful. Naging ka-relasyon namin kayo for 16 years. We’ve been together for a long time. It’s hard and difficult,” the pioneering host continued.

In true Boy fashion, he also said, “a part of me died today.”

The reason? Everything and pretty much everyone have changed. “Our writers are now head writers, our head writers before are now creative executives. We have evolved into different people. Nagbago na ang mga tao sa likod ng The Buzz.  At pati kayo, nagbago na rin.”

He pertained to how technology has changed the world, how it’s changed the way we communicate, how it’s changed the media, and how the news is delivered. “Nagbago na ang pamaraan ng pag-uusap natin. Ang pamamaraan ng news reporting ay nagbago na rin. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit pagsamantala kami mawawala. We want to take a few steps back to see where we are and where you are.”

Boy Abunda did promise three things: 1) that they will be back, 2) that showbiz news is here to stay, and 3) that the talk show genre won’t die.

“The best way is to stop today and then come back strong and be the best of what we can be. Maraming salamat Pilipinas at buong mundo for making The Buzz happen.”

Ah, change changing things. But that’s how life is, right?

Anyway, thank you, The Buzz for delivering grade A showbiz news for last 16 years. We can’t wait for your return!
