Who would have thought that “snail mail” would bounce back?

“Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) Postmaster General Ma. Josefina de la Cruz said that ‘snail mail’ remains big business, boasting of a net income of PHP640.43 million in 2014,” reports Nathaniel R. Melican in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

De la Cruz explained, “Many people think snail mail is dead, but our biggest business is still snail mail. You’d be amazed at the variety of mail we receive and deliver.”

De la Cruz pointed out that “about 80% of the company’s income come from the traditional mail operations, upending the common notion that text messaging and e-mail, among other new communications technologies, have caused the demise of ‘snail mail.'”

The report noted: “The PHLPost 2014 Annual Report indicated that the number of mail posted last year increased to 88.48 million, up 44.56% from mail in 2013. The company also delivered 133.25 million mail nationwide last year, a 12.75% increase over 2013 figures. The increase explains PHLpost’s net income of PHP640.43 million last year, from PHP588.96 million in 2013.”
