Carinderia Crawl E37: Vest Ramen in Town

French student Eloi Lambert, 25, has been touring Southeast Asia for four months. He’s seen the sights and tasted the foods of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. The Philippines was the last stop in his Asian adventure.

“Traveling opens you up to a lot of things, like knowing different cultures, meeting other people and enjoying new experiences,” he says.

The young Parisian loves to eat and is very particular with the taste of food. He says meals, especially dinners, are very important for the French because it is where family and friends gather and bond.

On this episode of Carinderia Crawl, Lambert goes to Vest Ramen in Town and ordered adobong kangkong, calderetang baka and a bottle of water (PHP395 total).

Lambert compares the carinderia’s caldereta with beef bourguignon: He praises the tenderness of the meat, admitting that the beef he tried in other South East Asian countries were hard to chew.

He wasn’t that excited about the adobong kangkong, though. He found it decent but overcooked, and too sour. Oh well, you can’t win them all.

Vest Ramen in Town, 1755 Adriatico St, Malate, Manila; +63 2 3549505. Daily 24/7.
