We all make mistakes, but it’s another story when your mistake is supposed to be taught to thousands of Pinoy kids.
Facebook user Joseph Salazar shared a photo of a page from a Department of Education (DEpEd) textbook. It showed a glaring error. In it, the epic of Gilgamesh was described as an epic from Egypt.
A simple Google search will tell you that the epic of Gilgamesh is from ancient Mesopotamia. The area that was previously Mesopotamia is now, as Wikipedia puts it, “modern-day Iraq, Kuwait, the northeastern section of Syria and to a much lesser extent southeastern Turkey and smaller parts of southwestern Iran.” There’s no mention of Egypt there. (Yes, we know Wikipedia isn’t really 100% stellar. We’re just highlighting the irony that it appears to be more accurate than the DepEd textbook!)
Salazar also shared an image of the page listing the names of those in charge of the book’s contents.
Another Facebook user named Alvin Yapan also shared an image showing the page of what appears to be the same DepEd textbook with its own glaring error. In Yapan’s contributed image, the Harry Potter books were tagged as works from the United States. Everyone knows that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is from the UK.
