The heat is on and it can hurt you if you’re not careful.

“The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) advised the public to take precautions against heat exhaustion as the heat index is expected to reach 41°C on Thursday, May 21,” reports Helen Flores in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “The heat index is the apparent temperature felt by the human body due to the combined effects of temperature and humidity. A heat index of 32°C to 41°C can cause heat exhaustion and heat cramps.”

That said, PAGASA warned that “the highest index values are expected in Metro Manila and in the cities of Tuguegarao and Laoag in Northern Luzon.”

The report went on to say that “Metro Manila’s heat index would be at 39.9°C today and tomorrow (May 19 and May 20), 40.7°C on Thursday (May 21), and 40.2°C on Friday (May 22).”

Meanwhile, the report also revealed that Tuguegarao’s heat index would likely hit 40.1°C today (May 19), 40.6°C (May 20), 41°C on Thu (May 21) and 40.6°C on Fri (May 22).

The report likewise pointed out that in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, the heat index is expected at 38.4°C today (May 19), 38°C tomorrow (May 20), 40.1°C on Thu (May 21), and 39.6°C on Fri (May 22).
