A public art festival is happening in BGC, people!

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

Because we at Coconuts are religious followers of the street art scene, ArtBGC NextAct One Festival has got us super excited.

In the general scheme of things, One Fest is about street art. But everything will be elevated to another, grander level so that art isn’t just a pimple on the wall, as street art can sometimes be. Instead, during One Fest, public art becomes a…mural.

It’s a weeklong thing that begins on Friday, May 22 and ends on May 30. International and local street artists will take over several walls in Bonifacio Global City to create art that is both relevant and educational.

Street art aficionados will recognize the following featured artists and will most definitely fan-boy and fan-girl it out when they see Brooklyn-baed American duo Faile, Portuguese artist AkaCorleone, and Los Angeles-based American duo Cyrcle in town doing their thang.

Joining them are Juxapoz editor Kristin Farr, and LA-based artists Drew Merritt, and Nate Frizell.

Popular graffiti artist Egg Fiasco and self-taught artist Anjo Borlada will be reppin’ the local street art scene.

Of course, no art festival in Metro Manila is complete without music and film so organizers Bonifacio Arts Foundation, LeBasse Projects, and Globe included film artists Blaine Suque, Aleks Kocev, Dissident Pictures, and young Filipino collective Shutterpanda in the lineup.

At the closing party on May 30, music artists will take over: Pupil, Taken by Cars, BP Valenzuela, Techy Romantics, Severo, and She’s Only Sixteen.

So how does this work? The artists will work on seven walls all across BGC. Check out the map below:

Of course, you can catch them whenever you feel like it, but watching men [EDIT: and a woman! ] paint on walls under the Metro Manila summer sun? Doesn’t sound all too pretty. So fest organizers have put up watching parties for your pleasure and convenience:

You can watch Faile work the One Global Place wall (5th Avenue cor 26th St) on Sat, May 23 from 4-10pm; or check out Cycle at the Icon Plaza (7th Ave cor Federacion Dr) on Wed, May 27, from 7-10pm.

There will be a gallery show on Friday, May 29, from 5-10pm at Fully Booked BGC (11th Ave cor Lane O).

The biggest event of this week-long festival, however, is the closing party on May 30 where bands will be providing tunage at the Bonifacio High Street Central Ampitheater. More artists will join the original eight artists for well, more art!
