Today, Metro Manila’s heat index is forecasted to hit searing 41-degree temperature. Yeah, we hear you. #ohmygod

Our complaining has nothing on Mother Nature, so how about let’s focus on the opportunity at hand.

People, use today’s heat as an excuse to start your weekend, indulge, and get a drink. We rounded up seven refreshing drinks you can get in Metro Manila. Some are new, some are old but overlooked, some are on promotion, and a lot are alcoholic. Cheers ya mate! And may Metro Manila never hit 41 ever again. Ever.

1. EDSA BDG’s craft sodas. The beverage design studio on EDSA lives up to its name! Apart from excellent coffee and its equally excellent cocktails, BDG has also started serving bottled sodas they call Coo (PHP180). There are three flavors up for grabs: Aviation, Lychee Grapefruit, and PCR. People in the south, no need to make the trek up EDSA — Coo has been made available at Sprout in Salcedo Village. Yay! 209 EDSA, Mandaluyong. +63 2 6319035. 8am-12am.

2. Poco Deli’s Citrus Delight. Something light and refreshing from a restaurant known for its heavy meats and that super heavy chocolate cake. While Poco Deli’s ice cream may be your first choice of weapon for cooling down, you may want to consider Citrus Delight (PHP150). It’s less fattening than the ice cream, for one, and features five citrus fruits — lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, and calamansi — mixed together in soda water. So it won’t only refresh, it will also take care of your day’s vitamin C needs. 21 East Capitol Dr, Kapitolyo, Pasig. +63 2 4774332. 8am-10pm. (Photo: mommyfleur.com

3. Chili’s margaritas. The good news is that Chilis’ super popular unlimited margarita summer promo, is still ongoing until the end of the month. You only need to pay PHP300 for unlimited margarita, be it frozen or on the rocks. The better part of the news? You can make any hour a happy hour; you can have the unli margarita from the time it opens to the time it closes. Pair it with its unlimited nachos, or if you’re feeling galante, the burger sliders, and you’ll soon forget about the heat. Several locations in Metro Manila. 11am-9pm. 4. Farmacy’s Frozen Mojito. To be clear, Farmacy is an ice cream and soda fountain, so pretty much anything and everything here should help you with the heat. That said, we’re keeping things thematic and zero in on its After Dark menu, which is available all day. It’s named only thus because they’re spiked. Our favorite? The Frozen Mojito (PHP320). We’d say it’s a ladies drink, thanks to its size, but it has calamansi, don papa, and manille liquer so well, it’s also strong enough for everyone. Toughing it out? The Jack and Coke Float (PHP420) is a pretty awesome combination, no? G/F Netlima 1 Building, 4th avenue cor 26th street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. +63 2 8873622.

5. Kabila’s Juicy Fruit Mojito. Totally unexpected but more than appreciated from this Makati establishment. The Juicy Fruit Mojito (PHP225) is just one of the playful Filipino-inspired cocktails you can find on the drinks list. Lambanong is infused with ‘80s favorite gum Juicy Fruit and then added with pandan-infused rum and mint. Sounds fancy, but in this heat, you deserve that. 6. Stanford and Shaw’s ginger ale. These craft brewers make awesomely fresh ginger ale that contains 2% alcohol. You can buy it in bottles (PHP200 each) in several weekend markets but yes we know, we all need it today. Thankfully, Local Edition in Makati and Beer Exchange in Magallanes have Stanford and Shaw in their menu. 116 Perea St, Legazpi Village, Makati. Mon-Fri 7:30am-7:30pm; Sat & Sun 10:30am-7:30pm. +63 2 5569655.

7. Barcino’s Sangria. What we love best about Barcino’s Sangria? It’s fucking potent. Sure, it has all the trimmings and the fruits but this Spanish joint doesn’t forget the wine, first and foremost. If you need to get your fix early, all locations of Barcino has a happy hour (3-6pm) offer: PHP199 for a glass of Sangria. This comes with a single piece of pincho, as in tiny bread with either meat or cheese on top. If you’re coming in late, it has a night cap (10pm onwards) offer of PHP495 a carafe. 2/F City Golf, Julia Vargas, Pasig. Sun-Thu 10am-2am. Fri & Sat 10am-3am. +63 2 6362963. (Photo: Foodspotting)
