It’s not just rave reviews that Taklub is getting at Cannes.

The Brillante Mendoza film just won the Ecumenical Jury Mention, too! According to a press information Coconuts Manila received, “the Ecumenical Jury gives special attention to works of artistic quality that are testimonies ‘to the power of film to reveal the mysterious depths of human beings and the complexity of our society.’

The movie, which stars Ate Guy, is included in the festival’s Un Certain Regard category. It was awarded the mention ‘for the sensitive portrayal of individuals and communities working for life in the midst of suffering and death in the shows of natural catastrophes in the Philippines.’

Taklub, produced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, is an advocacy project of Mendoza. It is about a mother who loses her kids when Typhoon Yolanda hit in 2013.
