If you want to open your open coffee shop or for those who want to keep their minds young by learning something new: The Barista Coffee Academy of Asia (BCAA) just opened on Annapolis Street in Greenhills and it’s offering Barista 101 and 102 classes, among other coffee-related courses.

The school offers a lot of courses — Q-grading, cupping, coffee study tours, even business planning and other industry-related topics — but none appeal as much as the Barista 101. This is actually the school’s banner course, and the one course you must take if you want to make your coffee shop dreams come true.

It’s a 5-day course — 7 hours a day — where students are taught the basics of making a good cup of coffee. It’s all espresso-related: the different brewing methods, the correct coffee to water ratio, how to operate a the espresso machine. Industry stalwarts Michael Ross Canlas and Wency Dalamon are the chief course instructors. For June, there’s a course that starts on June 1 already.

If you can’t take a leave from your day job, BCAA also offers weekend classes. You just need to keep open your 8-12am on 6 consecutive Saturdays. For June, the weekend class starts on June 6.

The 5-day and 6-Saturday Barista 101 course will cost you just PHP14,500. Get your act together — make an inquiry, reserve your slot and pay the tuition — at least a week before the actual start of the class.

BCAA has long been around actually. It opened in Quezon City in 2009 as The Philippine Barista & Coffee Academy with ties to The American Barista & Coffee School in Oregon.

But just in April, it renamed itself as BCAA and moved to Annapolis. This is where the courses take place.

As BCAA, it is still affiliated with the American school but is now also accredited by TESDA.
