Influential TV host and comedian Vice Ganda has threatened to pull out his shares from Valkyrie following news that a transgender was denied entrance to the posh club over a “no crossdresser policy.”

Calling out the ‘crap’

On Twitter, the openly gay celebrity said he will “pull out my very small share” if Valkyrie “implements this crap.”

Over the weekend, transgender fashion designer Veejay Floresca was denied entry to Valkyrie. On Facebook, Floresca lamented the incident and hoped that the club will change its stance and not “dehumanize people because of their decisions to be themselves.”

Valkyrie apologizes

Meanwhile, Valkyrie sent a statement to the entertainment website Pep.ph and apologized over the incident involving Floresca, stressing that the club “does not refuse entry on the basis of an individual’s sexual orientation.”

“The management of Valkyrie Nightclub and The Palace Pool Club wishes to clarify that it does not discriminate against transwomen and transgender individuals… The Club has, on many previous occasions, welcomed transgender guests into its premises,” Valkyrie said as quoted in an article on PEP published Tue, Jun 23.

It said, however, that the club’s security personnel “were merely adhering to its safety policies and guidelines.”

“Valkyrie Nightclub and The Palace Pool Club are private establishments. As such, they reserve the right to determine who will be permitted entry into their premises,” Valkyrie said.

Still, Valkyrie said its management “recognizes that it may be necessary to provide further training to its staff to ensure that they are better able to communicate the club’s guidelines and policies to its patrons in order to avoid misunderstanding in the future.”
