In May 2014, this charming Filipino was featured on the popular Humans of New York blog. He told Brandon Stanton, the dude running HONY, about a girl, a Filipina visiting New York, with whom he spent pretty much all of two weeks.
On the eve of her flight back home, she asked if he was serious about their thing. He answered wrong: “I don’t know.”
“Then I went home and laid awake all night. Her flight left at 9am. So at 4am, I texted her to wait for me outside security,” he narrates on HONY. Then he got into a cab, rushed to the airport, got there on time, and changed his answer: “I am serious. We will be together.”
He told Brandon, “I need you to make this sound very romantic. Choose a picture of me looking into the distance, and for the last line, say, ‘now I am wondering when we will be together again.’ Because I’m going to tag her in this.”
Fast forward to 13 months and what do you know: This guy, who chased the girl, just married her.
How do we know? We found the girl’s blog, where she would update her readers about her life, which included this exciting love story. There, she admitted that she was the girl the HONY dude was talking about.
We also learned their names: HONY dude is Warren Villanueva and the girl is Janina Pangilinan.
On the blog — isn’t it obvious we spent the entire morning perusing it? — Janina also shared how they maintained their long-distance relationship, plus the steps they took toward their forever (read: their engagement story, and their wedding!).
In a blog post published on June 19, Janina said they’d been married for a week already. “I cannot remember the last time I have been utterly lost for words. I also cannot remember the last time I got so drunk,” she writes.
Apparently, the couple got engaged on Feb 8, 2015 and they got married on June 12 in New York.
Congratulations, guys! We think you just made us believe in forever once again!
