This Pabebe parody video is going viral

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

Why is it catching up, and is it really catching up? What exactly it is?

Is Pabebe really a thing and somebody please tell us, why this is happening. And is it really happening?

Truth be told, we don’t quite know how or where to begin explaining the concept of Pabebe.

Based on several videos we’ve seen, we’d say Pabebe is short for Pabebe Girls, cute to pa-cute girl teenage girls who like to vlog their maarte to annoying monologues, usually shot in malls.

Lourd’s now-famous “Umasal Ayon sa Ganda” phrase is very apt for these Pabebe instances, but the girls look sweet and coy and cloyingly innocent, and they’re called Pabebe. How do you say or read that with a straight face?

Look at this. The Pabebe Warriors trying to get mad but can’t, or can’t get the instructions right. What we’re unsure of, is if the Warriors are mocking the seriously Pabebe, or are themselves seriously Pabebe.

Which brings us to the viral video in question.

These two drag queens — can we call them that? — have turned the Warriors into a Dubsmash video, or at least a Dubsmash-like video. In just 23 hours, it’s been watched 194,459 times. It’s true what they say, “walang makakapigil samen.” Oh dear.

WALANG MAKAKAPIGIL SAMEN! Kung gusto nyo gayahin nyo kami! -pabebe gurls–O ito na nga ginaya na namin kayo! Walang makakapigil samen! HAHAHA!

So where and how did this all come about? Nobody really knows.

There are a few who point to this one girl as the original Pabebe Girl, the one to blame for all this. But nobody can say for sure.

Nevertheless, her Pabebeng Mamon video is, quite possibly the best example and explanation of what Pabebe is.

Can you say it with again? This time with feelings? PABEBE. Ugh.
