In an interview on ANC’s Headstart on Thu, Jul 2, suspended Makati Mayor Junjun Binay said there is nothing wrong with his sister, Sen. Nancy Binay, becoming a lawmaker while saying Sen. Grace Poe cannot be president because she lacks experience.

Junjun defended his sister from critics who say the latter had no governmental position and had no experience before becoming senator.

The younger Binay said to say that his sister is inexperienced is wrong because the latter worked with their father, Vice-President Jejomar Binay, prior to her stint in the Senate.

“She saw how our father worked, what it is like to work in government. So that statement is wrong. They can’t say she has no experience,” he said on ANC’s Headstart.

He added, “She was always with our dad. She was with him in dealing issues in HUDCC.” HUDCC is the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, which the Vice President headed as a member of the Cabinet.

Junjun also argued that Nancy and Senator Poe should not be compared because Poe is supposedly aspiring to become the country’s next president.

“What’s Grace running for? It’s not just for senator, right?,” he said. “My sister ran for senator. At least she saw how our dad did things.”

During the 2013 polls, Nancy became the subject of online ridicule due to her supposed inexperience in government. She responded by saying that her experience working for her father is enough.

Poe’s critics have said she may not be ready for the presidency because of her lack of experience. HOwever, she has not yet decided whether she will seek the presidency in 2016, even if the latest presidential preference surveys show she has overtaken the vice-president.
