A 10-year-old Chinese boy named Wei Su Yan drowned on Thu, Jul 2, in the swimming pool of the condominium where he and his family lived, the Mandarin Square on Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila.

“According to the report of case investigator SPO2 Jonathan Bautista of the Manila Police District’s General Assignment and Investigation Section, the victim, who was accompanied by his nanny, came home from school around noon, he refused to go up to his family’s unit on the 12th floor,” reports Andronico del Rosario in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Instead, as the report indicated, “the boy got off at the 7th floor after telling the nanny that he wanted to hang out in the gym.” It was also where the condominium’s covered outdoor pool was located. For her part, the nanny went straight to the family’s unit to drop off the boy’s school bag.

The report went on to reveal that the nanny “then went to get the boy but when he refused to come with her, she again called up his parents and told them where the boy was.” They, in turn, sent her out of the condominium on an errand.

The victim remained on the 7th floor. A janitor later found the boy floating motionless in the pool at 1:09pm. He called security guards to the scene and they rushed the victim to Metropolitan Hospital. The boy was declared dead on arrival.
