Jiro Manio’s incident at the NAIA may be over for now, but why did he really leave home? His foster father who is actually his maternal grandfather, Andrew Manio, narrated why the actor ran away from their home in San Juan.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Andrew said an argument between him and Jiro, about table manners, may have contributed to the incident.

Sabi ko sa kaniya, ‘Jiro, huwag mong kamayin yang pagkain,” he said. “Kasi ang haba ng kuko niya.”

Marami pang hindi kumakain, pagkain nating lahat yan, huwag mong kinakamay. Eh sinagot niya ako ng pabalang. Tapos nanlilisik yung mata niya. Susuntukin niya ako. Medyo na-high blood na rin ako.” Andrew narrated.

In Andrew’s interview on Aquino and Abunda Tonight on Jul 2, he revealed more about Jiro’s anger issues. “Nag-iisip siya, sabi ko sa kaniya, ‘Anong iniisip mo?’ At ang nasabi niya sa akin, ‘Huwag mo nga akong paki-alaman’.”

He also said that Jiro’s neck scratches are self-inflicted out of frustration.

Andrew Manio added that Jiro’s grandmother made promises to Jiro which were left unfulfilled. “Kasi ang bukambibig niya [Jiro], ang iniisip niya, darating yung “Mommy Lola” niya. Hindi naman po darating talaga ‘yon e. Nasa isip niya lang po.”

Jiro’s grandmother whom he calls “Mommy Lola”, promised to take Jiro to Japan, but the support stopped when Jiro’s supporting papers were denied. This caused his depression to worsen.

Aside from this, Jiro has an unpaid debt amounting to PHP98,000 for his drug rehabilitation program. Andrew clarified that Jiro’s second rehabilitation was for alcoholism and cigarette smoking, not drugs. “Ang pinagdaanan po niya, depression po, kaiisip.”

Jiro is reportedly now in the care of his high school teacher.
