Fire broke out at the popular 999 shopping mall in Divisoria on Friday morning at around 11am.

According to a Jollibee food server that Coconuts Manila was able to speak to, the fire broke out on the third floor of the building, near the Soler Street entrance of the mall.

Firefighters came quick — at about 11:15, they were already at the mall, putting out the fire. Shoppers, tenants, and workers were swiftly evacuated.

The firefighters successfully put out the fire, which had reached the 3rd level, at about 1pm, two hours after it started.

But the curious thing about it, says one of the volunteer fire fighters that Coconuts Manila was able to speak with, is that the sprinklers never came on.

As of filing of this story, there are no reports of injury or deaths due to the fire. Estimates of damage have yet to be given, as well.

As of Friday afternoon, only half of 999 is operational. The side of it, near Recto is open, while the Soler Street side is closed. Malls nearby are operating normally.
