Here’s one way of preventing mall culture from taking over the entire country: Open alternative entertainment spaces, like a museum.
A four-day workshop to be held in Bacolod will teach you museum skills — from the important (how to acquire and maintain a collection and conceptualize exhibitions) to the basic (how to create a catalogue and exhibition labels, and raise funds).
Because, you know, museums don’t have to be all-serious and fine art. In Antipolo, for instance, there’s a Santa Claus museum. In Marikina, there’s a museum for Imelda Marcos’ shoes.
The workshop is designed for institutions interested in setting up community museums or revitalizing existing ones.
It is a project of the Zero In Consortium of Museums, in partnership with UNESCO Philippines and Western Visayas Association of Museums.
Zero In Goes to Visayas! Workshop runs from Aug 25-28 in Bacolod City. Inquiries: Kam Omolida (+63 917 5029908, zeroinmuseums@gmail.com).
