Unless we hear it from Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao himself, we’re taking this with a grain of salt.

“According to You Against Corruption and Poverty (YACAP) party-list Rep. Carol Jane Lopez, Pacquiao is keeping his options open about joining the Liberal Party (LP),” reports Lira Dalangin-Fernandez on InterAksyon.com.

In a Wed, Jul 29, news conference, Lopez said, “We are talking. He is keeping his options open.”

The report noted: “Pacquiao belongs to the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay, but reports have been circulating that he would soon bolt the party.  There was also talk that after leaving UNA, he would run as an independent under the tandem of Senator Grace Poe and Senator Francis Escudero. Poe and Escudero have yet to make a formal announcement about their political plans.”

The report recalled that “Pacquiao was an LP member in 2010, but left the party in April 2012, or a year before the 2013 mid-term elections, to join the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), which was one of the parties that make up UNA, which formally registered as a political party in 2014.”
