On Thursday, the entire Metro Manila stood still for a city-wide earthquake drill. Dubbed #MMShakeDrill, it attempts to prepare both authorities and civilians should the unfortunate happen — that is, a 7.2 magntitude quake.

It was generally peaceful, people were cooperative and participative. Coconauts went around Manila city — along Taft Avenue, near City Hall, as well as the UST grounds in España — and were pleasantly surprised to see just how organized Thursday was! Even the police, medics, and what-have-you were eager to practice and learn a thing or two.

Just a note, though: The general reminder for people is to duck and cover.

At one point, everybody rushed out of the building, which, you know, went against the duck and cover SOP! The idea is to minimize more injuries. Remember, the earth is shaking. If you move along with it, you may just tumble and die. A little too exaggerated and simplified, we know, but you get the drill.

Also: there’s a proper way of covering. Make sure the back of your head as well as your neck is covered. Position both your arms in such a way that both your elbows is up your head, and your hands in the nape area. Come on, we know you’re doing it as you’re reading this. There you go. That’s it.
