“Baka bitter.” This was the reaction of Malacañang to Vice President Jejomar Binay’s statement that President Benigno Aquino’s endorsement of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas will not guarantee a victory for the Liberal Party (LP) candidate.

Aquino on Friday anointed Roxas as his preferred successor for 2016, expressing confidence that the interior secretary will be able to continue his administration’s “Daang Matuwid.”

For his part, Binay, who has long declared his intention to run for president, said he does not feel threatened by the candidacy of Roxas.

“Di ba galing yan sa DTI (Department of Trade and Industry)? Galing yan sa DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communications). Alam mo naman, yong LRT (Light Rail Transit) tumutulo. DILG pa ngayon?” Binay said.

He, however, hinted that Roxas might use government funds for his candidacy.

“Aba, grabe. Bilyon-bilyon. Yan ang pulitika ng administrasyon,” he said. —with a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
