Must-try: The Bowery’s new line of cocktails

The Bowery at Burgos Circle in BGC hasn’t been around for a year but already it’s become one of the dependable, reliables in the area. It’s no surprise: the food is good, the menu, easy to peruse, it’s open 24/7, and most importantly, the beer is always perfectly chilled.

But they’re scaling up their bar list. On Thursday, The Bowery launched their new line of cocktails. Mixologist David Dennis — the guy behind old favorites like Members Only and Opus, just to name a few — spearheaded the upgrade. A New Yorker just like Bowery chef Cuit Kaufman, David obviously created cocktails with the Big Apple in mind.

The 10 new drinks cover a wide range of taste. We feel like The Bowery is ready for different, and it seems, all types of after-hour inumans.

Below are the 9 that we’ve tried. Yes, yes, we were all out before they could make us try the drink that they like to call The Birthday Cake (PHP220). We’ll let you know if the combination of vodka, fragelico, lemon juice, tastes as festive as its name suggests.

The Bowery, F151, Forbeswood Heights, Rizal Drive cor Burgos Circle, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. 24/7. +639369296073.

The Uptown Girl (PHP280) reminds us of Starburst candy. It’s pretty sweet and tastes like something demure colegialas would like.

The Anti-zen (PHP360) is so clean and so neat. The green tea takes precedence over the Chivas, which was almost just peeking out. We say this is great for a Tuesday inuman, when you can’t get too wild just yet.

The Swazerac (PHP440) is not to be messed with. Orange cream bitters, chocolate liqueur in the Rittenhouse Rye whiskey base, in a glass laced with absinthe. The drink reminds us of a really strong Old Fashioned.

Another clean and refreshing drink, The Sixth Street Special (PHP280) is a definite tribute to Little India of NYC’s East Village. This is David Dennis flexing his muscles because look: what other drink do you know has turmeric and Star Anis in it and tastes right?

They’re calling it Fashion Week Margarita (PHP360) because they intend to change the fruit according to season. It’s margarita like you know it, except, well, it’s trendy.

If you like your drink fragrant and floral, the Standing Ovation (PHP360) is it. The lavender gin is so there. Otherwise, stay off. Its smell and taste might remind you of your lola. This is, by the way, David’s favorite of the lot. He calls it ‘elegant’.

The MargaRiri (PHP300) is a great Thursday evening cocktail. The red wine, the apple vinegar, and margarita, beautifully usher in the weekend. Says The Bowery co-owner Patrick Santos, don’t mix before drinking. There’s a reason why the red wine floats above the apple vinegar.

You know what’s even more bastos than the Swazerac? The Smoked Out Mexican (PHP420). The citrus and agave nectar give the tequila and the double puff of smoked scotch the chicano flavor. Best for late Friday night when rowdy behavior should be expected from everyone and everything, including your drink.

The Spicy Watermelon (PHP300) is like the two-faced bitch you hate at work. Sure, the watermelon is sweet, but man, does the cayenne pepper bite. And it bites hard. Tame it by gliding the lime around your salt-and-sugar rimmed glass.
