Expect rainy weather ahead as a new typhoon approaches the country this week and enhances the southwest monsoon (habagat), weather bureau PAGASA said Mon, Aug 3.

PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said Typhoon “Soudelor” (international name) will enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this Wed, Aug 5, and enhance the southwest monsoon. Once it enters PAR, it will be called  “Hanna.”

The typhoon, which will be named Hanna once it enters PAR, will move towards Taiwan and avoid making a landfall in the Philippines, Mendoza said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the intertropical convergence zone is currently affecting Palawan and Mindanao.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Mindanao and the provinces of Mindoro and Palawan.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country today.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
