A losing senatorial candidate in the 2013 elections wants Sen. Grace Poe removed as senator.

Lito David of the Ang Kapatiran Party (AKP) attempted to file a petition before the Senate Electoral Tribunal seeking to unseat Poe. However, the tribunal did not accept the quo warranto case as he lacked the required PHP50,000 filing fee.

David said Poe is not qualified to become a senator because she lacks the natural born citizenship requirement due to her status as a foundling.

He also alleged that Poe was one year short in the residency requirement for senators.

David also accused Poe of assuming the top post at the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) while she was still a US citizen.

The neophyte senator, who topped the 2013 senatorial polls, has insisted that she already abandoned her dual citizenship when she ran for office.

The issue of Poe’s alleged lack of residency requirement was first raised by the camp of Vice-President Jejomar Binay.

David, however, insisted that he is acting on his own and not doing this as part of a demolition job against Poe.

He urged presidential aspirants Vice President Jejomar Binay and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas to chip in for the filing of the case before the SET.

David said he will also file a case against Poe before the Commission on Elections for allegedly falsifying her certificate of candidacy, and in another court for assuming office as MTRCB chief while she was a US citizen. —from a report by RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
