Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz has commended a female staff of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Kuwait for bravery in the line of duty after she subdued a Kuwaiti employer who tried to kidnap his former Filipina household service worker while en route to a hospital.

Dina Ponciano, administrative staff of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration at the POLO in Kuwait, was bringing to the hospital Lolita Eroy in a diplomatic vehicle driven by local hire Domingo Liscano when Mohammed Musaed Motlaq Khashman Alajmi, Eroy’s Kuwaiti employer, and two unidentified companions, blocked their vehicle at the corner of Hamad Abdulmehsin Almishari St. and Nasser Bin Nasser St., Block 6, Faiha.

Alajmi and his companions alighted from their vehicle, approached the diplomatic vehicle, dragged Liscano out, and forcefully tried to pull out Eroy.

Failing to take Eroy out due to her and Ponciano’s strong resistance, the Kuwaitis rode the POLO vehicle and sped away, with the two passengers struggling and with Ponciano constantly pleading for the Kuwaitis to return them to the Philippine Embassy.

After about 10 minutes of the drive, Ponciano suffered from hypertension, which scared the suspects and prompted them to return the car near the embassy and hurriedly left them 200 meters away from the POLO.

In his report to the Secretary, Labor Attaché Atty. Cesar L. Chavez, Jr. said the incident occured on 11 July 2015, at about 5:00 p.m.

“I commend AS Ponciano for being vigilant and for putting her life on the line in the performance of her duty. This is a true display of a woman’s bravery, despite the possibility of being harmed by the male suspects,” Baldoz said.

“Hindi biro ang trabaho ng ating mga tauhan sa ibang bansa kaya lagi din namin silang pinaaalalahanan na mag-ingat (The job being done by our staff in other countries is no joke, that’s why we always remind them to be careful). I will support the POLO in filing the case against the suspects,” she added.

The POLO has filed a case at the Faiha Police Station about the incident.

A note verbale was also filed by the Philippine Embassy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) after being notified about the incident and the investigators’ recommendation to the POLO.
