MANILA — A comedian from Novaliches was already making noise on social media even before he was named ”The Funny One” grand winner.

Ryan Rems Sarita, dubbed as “Rakistang Komikero,” created buzz online with his brand of non-sequitur humor and straight-faced delivery of jokes.

In an interview with ABS-CBNnews.com, Sarita shared how his life was prior to making a name as “The Funny One”.

Here are some things that you may not know yet about Sarita:

1. His mother does not find him funny. Even before he was named grand champion of “The Funny One”, Sarita earned hordes of fans because of his unique way of delivering jokes, most of which are about people’s everyday lives. He, however, shared that his own mother does not find him funny.

“Actually ‘yung nanay ko hindi siya natatawa sa akin. Paborito niya Crazy Duo,” he said, referring to the father-son tandem composed of Diego and Gedent.

2. His dream was to become a television writer. Sarita said he tried his luck in applying for a writer position in different television stations. However, there were no vacancies at that time, so he ended up auditioning for “The Funny One.”

“Una, nag-apply muna ako sa isang network, tapos wala ring bakante. Tapos nag-apply ako dito bilang writer, sabi nila walang vacancy for writer, ‘so nagstand-up comedy ka pala, may auditions kami coming soon,'” he said.

“Sabi ko tatagal ba ako dun ng 1 episode, 2 episodes, para kumita naman kahit barya lang. Hanggang sa tumagal ng tumagal, hanggang sa may nakaka-dig pala ng jokes ko,” he added.

3. He was part of a band. Sarita’s singing talent is no secret to his fans, as it was earlier revealed that he once joined a singing competition on television. He also previously showed his talent on “It’s Showtime.”

He was also part of a band, but the group decided to disband because they felt they sounded better inside a studio than during live performances.

“May banda ako dati, tapos iniwan ko ‘yung banda ko kasi mas magaling kami sa studio kesa sa live.”

4. He likes reading about The Beatles and Elvis Presley. As a person who likes music, Sarita also reads about popular music icons such as The Beatles and Elvis Presley, adding that this helped him in dealing with his fans.

“Medyo mahilig akong magbasa tungkol sa buhay nina Elvis, Beatles, kung paano i-handle ‘yung popularity, kung paano mag-handle ng audience. Natutunan ko rin kay the late Ravishing Rick Rude, ‘never let a fan down,’ sabi niya,” Sarita explained.

5. He once worked as an online English tutor and a call center agent. According to Sarita, he once worked as a call center agent, but only for a short time. Prior to his stint on “It’s Showtime,” he was an online English teacher.

Sarita holds a degree in Communication Arts from Centro Escolar University.
