Ah, to be young and active in this age of cheap travel—millennials don’t know how good they have it! Rock bottom airfares, endless promotions, bed and breakfasts and small hotels that offer the same amenities as larger chains…factors that once made experiences limited to the rich and privileged can now be enjoyed by anyone with a reasonable budget and wanderlust.
One more edge today’s traveler has is digital media. A few clicks and you’ll be able to discover whether a restaurant is worth visiting, or a hotel is located near that beach you’ve always wanted to go to. And let’s not get started on the possibilities of documentation! Photos, videos, blogs…every journey becomes a personal magazine, starring you, available to anyone who cares to look. Except that it won’t earn or win you anything (well, unless it’s extremely extraordinary)—until now.
Coconuts recently came across a contest that not only encourages you to travel—it urges you to show off your photos and videos of your adventures, as well! The prizes are pretty chic: the overall winner will receive the UDI U818A-1 Discovery Quadcopter; first runner up will receive a Herschel bag; and two second runners up will receive a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 each. Plus, all winners will receive an overnight stay valid for any Go Hotels branch.
The contest is called #GoCreateYourOwnAdventure, and its proponent, Go Hotels, is basically telling you to “get out of your comfort zone and explore.”
Here’s how to join:
1. Follow them on Facebook (fb.com/gohotels.ph) and Instagram (@gohotels_ph). Watch their video on Youtube, you know, just to get a feel of what you’re getting into and share it on your Facebook wall. (Make sure your accounts are set to public so Go Hotels can see your posts.)
2. Create a 15-second video on Instagram by compiling your photos or videos of your travels and adventures in the Philippines. (And yes, all material should be your own original images and clips. Any app or program may be used for editing.)
3. Use Go Hotel’s original soundtrack for your post (“A Place for Every Juan” by Kian Ransom. It can be downloaded here.
4. Describe your post with a caption, using the sentence: “#GoCreateYourOwnAdventure with @gohotels_ph! Join their giveaway today!” somewhere. (Example: Batanes, I’ll be back! “#GoCreateYourOwnAdventure with @gohotels_ph! Join their giveaway today!)
Pretty neat, huh? Now for the caveats:
A. Only TWO (2) entries are allowed per person. Flooding of videos is discouraged and will automatically be disqualified. Besides, flooding of anything is so not cool.
B. Contest period is from August 3 to 31, 2015. Winners will be announced on September 2, 2015 and will have until November 3, 2015 to claim their prize.
C. Winners will be contacted by a Go Hotels representative via email on how to claim their prize. Winners shall be responsible for claiming their prizes at Go Hotels’ Head Office at Ortigas Center, Pasig City. If winner can’t claim the prize personally, he/she may authorize someone to claim on his/her behalf.
D. Once he or she uploads a video for the contest, participant agrees and allows Go Hotels to use contest videos for marketing collaterals.
E. Robinsons Land Corporation’s employees and immediate families up to the second degree are ineligible to join the contest.
