Mabuhay, Donald: Most of Trump’s Facebook fans are in the PH

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

US president wannabe Donald Trump has 1,694,561 followers on Facebook and — surprise — at least 62,321 of them don’t have the power to put him in office, even if they wanted to.

That’s because they are not Americans — they are random people from the Philippines and other non-US countries.

US website Vocative reports that a big chunk of Trump’s followers are not located in the States.

The Philippines leads the most likes per non-US country, followed by Mexico (59,289) and Malaysia (44,344).

“One in 27 Trump followers is from the Philippines. While presidential candidates Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz also have followers there, only one in 519 Cruz followers and only one in 572 Rubio followers are from the Southeast Asian country,” according to the report.

So what accounts for all those likes? Is it our obsession with beauty pageants (Trump owns Miss Universe)? Is it because we are the social media capital of the world?

Nah-uh. According to Vocative we just happen be one of the countries that are “deemed hubs for Facebook fraud.”

Sorry, Donald, didn’t mean to lead you on.
